Photos from the Seattle St. Patrick's Day Parade with the 501st Legion

A rainy Saturday in March did not stop the 501st Legion from taking part in a lively St. Patrick's Day Parade held by the Irish Heritage Club. Bagpipes echoed throughout the streets beginning on James St and heading north to Westlake Center, where the festival continued via a short monorail ride to Seattle Center. The costumed Stormtroopers were asked to escort St. Patrick himself, as well as Seattle Mayor Ed Murray and Galway, Ireland Mayor Noel Larkin to the stage.

The Disappearing Town in Washington

The town of North Cove on the Washington Coast has been steadily eroding from the Pacific Ocean for decades, losing up to 200 feet of ground per year at the appropriately named Washaway Beach. Erosion has already claimed hundreds of houses, as well as a lighthouse, school, cannery, and a post office over the last century — and more homes fall each year. I took what will be my first of many trips to Washaway Beach to see what this battle between man and nature looks like.

Photos from the Black Lives Matter Protest in Seattle, 2015

Supporters of the Black Lives Matter movement protested in Seattle on Black Friday, 2015. They took to the streets with chanting "Black Lives Matter, Not Black Friday" and attempted to enter shopping malls in order to disrupt the popular shopping day. As day turned to night, they made their presence known at the annual Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony and held a sit down protest. Photography by Anthony Allison.
